hip hop 101

Hip Hop 101 is workshop designed for classroom use at the college/university level. The course examines the maturation and importance of hip-hop with an emphasis on its worldwide, societal implications.   Hip Hop 101 also serves as a primer on the subject of hip-hop culture, its music, and history. The workshop offers a chronological assessment of hip-hop’s progression, while examining various issues regarding race, class, violence, and gender. Materials in the field will be utilized and presented including landmark books, music, films, and other media. Hip Hop 101 is presented in a manner that logically transitions from one historical benchmark to the next. Conducted by the Hip Hop Historian Brandon “Bigg B’ Hickman, Program Director of the Hip Hop Station Coast 97.3, he has produced with the belief that hip-hop is a unique American phenomenon with complex implications that should be examined in the modern world by using music, film and incorporating fun into every workshop.
